IN THE BEGINNING
Rags & Rust was initially founded as a student project while John was attending Staffordshire University some years back. The brief was to create a theoretical design company where we would then be graded on how well thought-out and how "successful" it was. Creating branding and a website: then undertaking some mock up projects and client meetings.
After university John then perused a career in car and motorcycle design. This lead him to working in many different countries and companies around the world; some to note are
Motorola, Formula E, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Ducati, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Jaguar and Aston Martin respectively. All the while thinking of his own company designing and building one off motorcycles and cars.
CREATING THE DREAM
Having always been fond of all things old, broken and with a story to tell;
Rags & Rust takes this passion and builds custom motorcycles and ratrods from donor vehicles and parts that "experts" would say need to be taken to the scrap heap.
In a world full of disposable products, short life spans and shiny expectations often the vintage and classic parts get over looked.
These are however full of history and even the smallest part has a story to tell.
Whether its a ratrod, motorcycle or scooter, the aim is to respect the original form, history and story.
Then break these down and create something unique that enhances these three ideals.
The final product is then something that shows off the design, craftsmanship and ages gracefully over time and use.
